Specialization and research interests:

- Archaeology, town-planning and architecture of Egyptian cities from the Mamluk period,
- Egypt and Ancient and Medieval cultures of the Mediterranean Basin  (up to Ottoman Times),
- Reception of Antique and Orient in Europe (Middle Ages – Enlighetment),
- Ancient, medieval and oriental iconography of the “Strange”,
- Origins of Life; Dinosaurs, Dragons, Demons and other strange creatures.

 

Academic activity:

Ph.D. Historical Sciences (Institute of History, Warsaw University 1984).

Dr. Witkowski took part in research works in Egypt from 1976 to 2000:
He was a member of several archaeological and restoration missions of the Polish Center of Mediterranean Archaeology of the University of Warsaw) in:
- ALEXANDRIA (Kôm al Dikka): 1976-80, 1989 – excavations,
- DEIR AL BAHARI (Temple of Queen Hatshepsut): 1976-80, 1982-89, 1992-96 – epigraphic documentation, excavations, restoration works,
- VALLEY OF THE KINGS  (Tomb of  Ramesses III - KV 11): 1979-80, 1982, 1985 – epigraphic documentation,
- CAIRO (Funerary complex of the Great Emir Qurqumas – No 162) 1995-2000 – excavations, restoratios works, epigraphic documentation.

From 2001 to 2016 Editor (from 2008 – chief editor) of the Etudes et Travaux.
