We are pleased to announce the establishment of cooperation with the Consorzio Universitario Mediterraneo Orientale (CUMO) in Sicily. The initiator of the joint projects is Dr. Marta Fituła, archaeologist, Assessor for Education at the University of Noto. During the ceremony of signing the documents by the Consorzio’s President, dr Rosario Pignatello, on the 1st of October 2021 the welcoming speech was delivered by dr Joanna Popielska-Grzybowska, who virtually represented our Institute.

On the coming Tuesday, October 5 at 2.30 PM GTM+2 Dr Maria Carmela Gatto and Dr Oren Siegel will present their new project carried out at IKŚIO PAN as part of the POLS grant. The presentation entitled "Introducing BORDERSCAPE Project" will discuss the social and landscape transformations in the First Nile Cataract at the time of the emergence of the Egyptian state at the end of 4000 B.C.E.
The project is funded by the Norway Grants Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 (https://eeagrants.org/) through the Polish National Science Centre (https://www.ncn.gov.pl/?language=en)-POLS Call (2020/37/K/HS3/04097).

Fierce lions, angry mice and fat-tailed sheep: Animal encounters in the ancient Near East", edited by Laerke Recht and Christina Tsouparopoulou, published in the University of Cambridge's McDonald Institute Conversations series, is a tribute to the animals of the ancient Near East and their complex relationship with the environment and other human and nonhuman animals.
Offering faunal, textual and iconographic studies, the contributions present a fascinating array of the many ways in which animals influence human life and death, and explore new perspectives in the exciting field of human-animal studies as applied to this part of the world.
