Specialization and research interests:

An Arabist specialized in cultural and literary studies. Leader of the scientific projects: Cairo Music Scene(s) Since 2011: Between Political Activism and Cultural Change (2021–2024) and Nasr Abu Zayd – Rethinking the Islamic Thought (2014–17), funded by the National Science Centre in Poland. Assistant Professor and Head (2011–13) of the Department of Arabic Language and Culture at Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Main research interests: contemporary Arab liberal thought (e.g., the works and ideas of Nasr Abu Zayd); popular culture in Asia and Africa (especially Arabic hip-hop and other genres of contemporary Arabic popular music); and the multiple identities and politics of Christian groups in Arab countries. His research combines an Arabic philological background with the methods of contemporary social sciences.
Winner of the Foundation for Polish Science scholarship (‘Start’ programme, 2007–8), scholarship winner and member of Collegium Invisibile. Completed his Ph.D. (2011) at the Graduate School for Social Research (GSSR/SNS). Author of the 3 books, co-author of the first Polish critical edition of Nasr Abu Zayd’s texts, and author of 40 other scientific publications. As for his hobbies, he likes travelling, reading contemporary world literature, watching and analysing football matches as an important cultural phenomenon, watching ambitious cinema, listening to alternative music, and riding a bike.
